Silence is a scary sound. The light overhead buzzes repeatedly. Loud, Piercing, An Annoyance.Silence is a scary sound.
I tap my pencil on the desk. Tap, Tap, Thunk.
I hear the rustling of the bushes against my house. Scraping, Woosh-ing, Soft.
I hear my siblings fighting across the hall. Yelling, Cursing, Smashing.
I hear my dad's car pulling in the driveway. Clattering, Choking, Rumbling.
Then for a second, it all stops. Nothing. Nothing. Nothing.

I've built up walls. I stand among my group of friends, Laughing, Pointing, Pushing.I've built up walls.
I fake a smile in front of them, Deceiving, Forced, Grim.
I cross my arms and lean against the wall, Pondering, Wishing, Ignored.
I distance myself away from them, Staring, Dreaming, Not responding.
I've built up walls against those I love. Strong, Sturdy, Yet unstable.
I feel so alienated. Confused, Alone,
Scared.
